How can I reboot my dedicated server?

If you can access your server via SSH (Linux), use the following command to reboot your server:

shutdown -r now

If you can login via Remote Desktop on Windows Systems, please reboot using the Remote Desktop via the method below :

Start --> Run --> type cmd, hit enter or OK
Or go to a DOS Prompt

Any of the following commands can be used:

"shutdown -f" to shutdown
"shutdown -r -f" to reboot
"shutdown -i -f" to get a GUI
"shutdown -l -f" to logoff

If you can't access your server by the above normal means, try to reboot it via the Client Portal reboot links. If the server does not respond or come back up in 5 to 10 minutes, please submit a support ticket to our support department on the issue.

IMPORTANT *** Unnecessary use of the remote reboot rather than using normal reboot methods described at the top of this article can run the risk of causing corrupted data on your server. If you are having to use the remote reboot feature often, please open a support ticket so an administrator can investigate the issue for you.
